# Auto-linking

## Auto-linking is a new feature that makes the process of linking keywords in your posts faster and more user-friendly.

The way auto-linking works is simple. When a user finishes writing a paragraph inside the body of a post (article, video, or gallery), they can click **"Smart search"** under it. The system then analyzes the text, extracts sports entities – names of players, teams, stadiums, coaches, tournaments – and suggests them as keywords under the paragraph. Keywords can be linked inside the text of posts and will send readers to pages set by your system operators.

A keyword that matches more than one entity shows a blue button with the number of matches (for example, **Real Madrid** with **6**). Click it to see the candidate entities with their sport, country and gender, and choose the right one: the keyword is linked straight away and removed from the row. Candidates can come from different sports, so check each keyword before you link it.

If the editor is not happy with the results, choose **"Search everywhere"**. This button appears next to **Smart search** once a keyword in the paragraph has been linked. It runs the analysis again and lists all of the paragraph's keywords, including the ones already linked.

An entity, or keyword, can be linked either the first time it occurs in a paragraph, or everywhere it occurs.

Note that keywords are extracted and suggested automatically, based on an index built by your team.

#### Manual linking

Keywords are extracted and suggested under a paragraph when you select **Smart search**, but linking them can be done manually or automatically.

When you link manually, you have more control over how keywords are linked inside paragraphs.

- Linking in all paragraphs

You can manually insert suggested entities *in all paragraphs*. When you do, you can choose to insert either the first occurrence or all occurrences of each keyword, using the split button at the top of the Body.

If you select **Insert first occurrence**, keywords will be linked only the first time they appear inside paragraphs.

If you select **Insert all occurrences**, keywords will be linked everywhere they appear in paragraphs.

- Linking in a specific paragraph

Linking inside a paragraph means the actions you apply are reflected only in that *specific paragraph*.

Within a single paragraph, you can either apply a linking action to the whole paragraph, or manage how each keyword is linked individually.

To add all occurrences of suggested keywords inside a paragraph, select **Add all**. To add only the first occurrence of each keyword, select **Add first occurrences**. For keywords with a number button, choose the right entity first: **Add all** links each keyword to its first matching entity.

To manage how each keyword is linked inside a paragraph, expand the keyword menu (the arrow next to the keyword) and choose **Insert all occurrences of** or **Insert first occurrence of** that keyword. The menu is available for keywords that match a single entity; keywords with several matches have the number button described above instead.

#### Automatic linking

With automatic linking, all actions happen according to how you've set up the process.

**Link settings**

As mentioned earlier, linked keywords send users to a webpage your administrators have set – this could be a URL to a statistics page, or whatever you decide.

You can also edit a link's destination: click the linked keyword to open the **Link** popover, change the URL in **Enter link** and select **Apply**. The popover also offers **Mark as nofollow**, **Mark as sponsored**, **Do not auto-link** and **Open in new tab**, and a **Remove link** button. You can even link the same keyword everywhere in your text but send readers to different URLs, using the **Do not auto-link** option for individual keywords: turn it on to exclude that link from auto-linking.
