How to use Custom Entities

Custom Entities help you categorize and tag content across multiple domains. This guide explains how to use Custom Entities when writing and organizing articles in the CMS.

Using Custom Entities in Articles

Accessing the Tags Menu

1. While editing an article, locate and click the Tags menu
2. The Tags menu will appear with several options:
   • Tags - used for the custom tags created in your project
   • Domain
   • Entity Type
   • Connections (custom entities)

Adding Custom Entities to Articles

1. Select Domain
   • Click the Domain dropdown
   • Choose from the available options:
     • Sport
     • Technology
     • Entertainment
     • Business
     • Politics
     • Social media
     • Esports
2. Choose Entity Type
   • After selecting a domain, choose the Entity Type:
     • Person
     • Organization
     • Place
     • Role
3. Select Specific Entities
   • Use the Connections field to search for entities
   • Select entities from the search results
   • Selected entities appear with their icons and color coding below 
     
     • Color coding options are as follows:
       
       • Person - Blue 
       • Organization - Pink 
       • Place - Green

Example Workflow

Here's an example of tagging a social media organization:

1. Open the Tags menu
2. Set Domain to "Social media"
3. Set Entity Type to "Organization"
4. In the Connections field, search for your organization (e.g., "sportal")
5. Click the desired entity from the search results
6. The selected entity appears below with its icon

Finding Articles with Custom Entities

Using Advanced Search

To find articles tagged with specific Custom Entities:

1. Use the article search functionality
2. Apply filters for:
   • Domain
   • Entity Type
   • Custom Entity presence

Tips for Effective Use

1. Consistent Tagging:
   • Use relevant entities for each article
   • Maintain consistency in entity selection
   • Tag all relevant aspects of the article
2. Domain Selection:
   • Choose the most appropriate domain for your content
   • You can use entities from multiple domains in one article
   • Selected entities remain visible when switching domains
3. Organization:
   • Use entity types systematically
   • Combine entities logically
   • Review tagged entities before publishing
4. Search Optimization:
   • Use specific entity types for better searchability
   • Combine filters for precise article finding
   • Keep entity associations relevant to the content

Common situations and solutions:

1. Can't find an entity?
   • Check your Domain selection
   • Verify the Entity Type
   • Try alternative search terms
   • Ensure the entity has been created
2. Entity not appearing after selection?
   • Refresh the Tags menu
   • Check if the entity is still active
   • Verify your permissions
3. Wrong entity type showing?
   • Double-check your Domain selection
   • Verify that the entity was created with the correct type
   • Contact an administrator if metadata seems incorrect
