# Writing, editing and formatting in blocks

## Writing in blocks allows for richer writing, flexible editing, and advanced formatting.

The body (content area) of articles, videos, and galleries is arranged into “blocks”. Writing in blocks is a bit like building the structure of your content with LEGO. Blocks are single components that you can use in the editor. You can look at them as separate content items each with specific functions and an editing panel to structure and customize your content.

The block editor lets creators highlight important passages, insert contextual widgets and football statistics, as well as combine various types of content inside the body of articles, videos, and galleries. You can create new “blocks” by selecting the *Plus* icon at the bottom of each block inside the body of your article, video or gallery. Also, you can rearrange blocks by dragging and dropping them.

There are several block choices you can add, including Paragraph, Image, Gallery, Article, Heading, Video, Odds, Match Center, and more. To the user, all blocks behave in a consistent and familiar way, even if they provide tailored UIs for their controls.

#### Quick copy/paste of blocks

The block editor lets you select and copy/paste blocks at the bottom or top of the content you are working on.

To copy blocks:

1. Select the blocks you want to copy from the body of your post by ticking the checkbox at the top left of each block, next to the block number.

2. Then, select the **Copy blocks** button. A **Paste blocks at bottom** button appears next to it.

   You can paste your selection either at the top or bottom of your content’s body.
3. To paste your blocks at the top, open the arrow next to **Paste blocks at bottom** and select **Paste blocks at top**.
4. To paste your blocks at the bottom, select **Paste blocks at bottom**.

#### Drag/drop blocks

The block editor lets you reorder blocks with a drag/drop functionality.

To change the position of a block inside the body of your post, simply hold the drag handle at the top left corner of the block (the block number and the three-line icon) and move the block.

#### Quick access to new blocks

To improve the speed of your work, we made adding blocks to the body of posts quicker. Under each block, you will find a row of quick-add buttons: the most used content blocks first, then one icon for each sport enabled on your project, then **+**. Select a sport icon to open that sport’s widget list.

Note that the content-block buttons under each block are the same blocks as the ones under the **Most popular** category in the **+** menu, except **Odds**, **Match Center** and **Standings**. To add those, select **+** → **Most popular**.

#### Uninterrupted writing inside Text blocks

We’ve optimized the block editor to let you write quickly and without interruptions. When you click inside a text block, its formatting toolbar appears above it, and typing does not trigger entity suggestions. When you are ready, select **Smart search** under the paragraph (in videos and galleries this button reads **Search everywhere**), and the editor recognizes and suggests the sports entities in its text.

#### Formatting

When you create content in blocks, you have more options to edit, format, and enhance your content. If you select the *Plus* icon, you will notice that blocks are organized into categories: **Most popular**, **Text**, **Content** and the widget categories enabled on your project (for example **Football widgets V2**, **Basketball widgets** or **Fans United widgets**). Select a category to see its blocks, and use the back arrow to return to the list. The **Text** category holds the Paragraph, Heading, Quote, List and [Table](https://knowledge-base.sportal365.com/tables?hsLang=en) blocks.

The toolbar of a Paragraph block offers Bold, Italic, Underline, text alignment, Link, bulleted and numbered lists, a block-type menu (**Heading 1** to **Heading 4**, **Quote**), a highlight marker, emoji and three paste options: **Paste formatting from Word only**, **Paste all formatting** and **Paste no formatting**.

To add a link, select the text, then select **Link** in the toolbar (or press Ctrl/Cmd+K). In the **Link** popover, type the URL in **Enter link**, switch on **Mark as nofollow**, **Mark as sponsored**, **Do not auto-link** or **Open in new tab** if you need them, and select **Apply**. To change or remove a link later, click inside the linked text: the popover reopens with its settings and a **Remove link** button (the red unlink icon).

Each block you add has its own function and settings. For example, if you add an image block, you’ll get the option to resize and change the alignment of your image.

Also, with the **Paste text at bottom** button, the block editor lets you copy text from an outside source (e.g. a Word document) and paste it into the CMS. Open the arrow next to it and choose **Paste text at top** or **Paste text at bottom**: a text area opens where you paste your text. Users can copy an entire article from an outside source and paste it into the editor, which automatically breaks it down into paragraph blocks.
