How to duplicate content

Make a copy of an existing post and save it as new.

Duplicating a post is a feature that lets journalists and editors clone an existing post, edit it, and save it as new. It speeds up content creation in situations like covering pre- and post-game events (e.g. press conferences) or a developing story.

Note that you can duplicate Articles, RSM Articles, Videos, and Galleries.

How to duplicate an article, video, or gallery?

To duplicate a post:

  1. In the left sidebar, under CONTENT, select All Articles, RSM Articles, Videos > All videos, or Galleries.

Legacy All Articles listing in the CMS 4.8.0 frame: All Articles selected under CONTENT, the New Article button, search with Show advanced filters / Clear filters, and article rows with Active, Created by, Published at, Source Type, Category, views and an Actions column with a yellow Edit button and caret per row.
  2. Find the post you want to duplicate. Its yellow Edit button is in the Actions column at the right of the row.

Three rows of the legacy All Articles list (Spain Reign Supreme..., European Titans Clash in Dallas..., Valencia host league leaders Barcelona at Mestalla). The middle row's yellow Edit button is outlined in red and a red arrow points to its dropdown caret.
  3. Open the menu with the arrow next to the Edit button and select Copy Article.

Legacy All Articles row with the Edit caret menu open: Copy Article (outlined in red), Copy to project, Preview Article and Delete Article, with a red arrow pointing at the caret.

If you work in All Articles (new), select the arrow next to the pencil icon in the article's row (More actions), then select Copy Article. This menu has no Copy to project option.

All Articles (new) row actions: the pencil icon and the arrow next to it, with the More actions menu open showing Copy Article, Preview and Move to Trash.
  4. Once you select the copy option, a new Create Article screen opens with the content of the original article already filled in. The word [Copy] appears in front of the post’s title to indicate that this is a duplicated post.

Create Article screen opened by Copy Article: breadcrumb Dashboard / Articles / Create Article, New Article header with Save article and Preview, strap line
  5. When you are done editing the content of your copied post, click Save article.

Note that you need to save the duplicated post to preserve it. It is not saved automatically when you clone it.
